Kristie Byrum, Ph.D, APR, Fellow PRSA is an Assistant Professor at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. She is a global public relations scholar recognized by her peers for publishing in academic journals such at the Public Relations Review, Environmental Communication, and the Research Journal of the Institute for Public Relations. She has   presented academic research papers as at communications conferences in the United States, Canada, Europe and in China.

Areas of expertise include: leadership/management, curriculum development, strategic planning, academic initiative support, diversity and inclusion promotion, programming, assessment, training recruiting and retention initiatives, student services, orientation, budget management, event management, leadership development, cultural competency and advising.

She has published papers regarding media law, philosophy in communication, and the role of public relations in corporate social responsibility. In 2016, she was honored as Bloomsburg University’s TALE Teacher of Excellence, one of only two professors University wide to receive the honor. Prior to entering the classroom in 2010, Dr. Byrum had a distinguished career comprised of two decades of experience as a public relations professional and journalist, allowing her to bring “real world” experiences into the classroom. A former entrepreneur and agency owner who received the national Sam Walton Award for Entrepreneurship in 2008, Byrum has earned the Bloomsburg University President’s grant (SPARC) to launch the Bloomsburg University Center for Strategic Communications Services. Consistent with her teaching philosophy, she received an Enterprise Leadership Center Grant in 2015, allowing her to give students applied research learning experiences. Active with the Public Relations Society of America on national and statewide levels, Byrum is a member of the PRSA College of Fellows and is accredited by the PRSA.
